Heaven & Hell: Matters of Attitude

This primary Tuesday was last seen heading in a hopeful direction--after pre-dawn walk this morning with my wife. The day has since become a latter one as business woes and cares set in to chase the saints away. But a souvenir of that former day is contained below, written between 6 - 6:30 AM after walk herein described. May the blessedness return as beautifully intact and blissfully omnivorous as before. As alternate, may Obama win today and go on to win the presidency. Better yet, let both destinies reside in this day and may praise be my first and last words today as well as tomorrow.

THE CANTICLE WALKS US HOME
for Pat & Barack

The birds serve as sentinels to the sun
their song the pulleys on which
the morning star is lifted into the sky
like a Steinway being hoisted into an apartment house.

The expectant air is prayer
a sustaining fullness of being
from which we drink and drive
home the ceaseless sheen of our presence.

When the heavens have brightened the birds dim
and the world borrows its frequencies
from sight not sound
now moving past the utterings of the first speed of song

into the amazement of the second speed of light.
